Day 43 - Faro

24 January 2022

Slept OK. Strange dreams. Breakfast. Bikes packed. On the road by 9.15 am. Short ride, 32 km. Downhill to the coastal town of Faro. The southern tip of Portugal.

Down and down. No complaints. The entire trip takes two hours with a coffee break. Easy riding coming down out of the mountains. Scenic, but you barely notice when you are on the downhill.

We arrive at Faro, check-in, and grab some lunch. Valenca was a few weeks ago. We have cycled Portugal, north to south.

Do milestones matter? Would it matter if we rode from Ervidel to Seville? Is Faro just to say we did the entire length of Portugal? I have enjoyed the journey. I have enjoyed it with Shell. Shared it. The milestone is irrelevant.

“You don't even know where I'm going."

"I don't care. I'd like to go anywhere.”

― John Steinbeck

It is a beautiful place. The streets are paved in mosaics centuries old. I am looking forward to a day off tomorrow. Already thinking about heading east to Spain.

We have our first work meeting tomorrow. It is nice to be excited about work. Not dreading it. After the meeting, we will explore Faro. It has history. An old town. A church of bones. Human bones.

Lunch was early. Might head out for dinner.
