Day 67 - Easy

17 February 2022

Wake up late. Almost miss breakfast. Again.

I don’t feel myself this morning. Tired from doing nothing. The more I do the better I feel. Sometimes laziness fits me well. Despite how it makes me feel, I excel at laziness.

“There are only four types of officers.

First, there are the lazy, stupid ones. Leave them alone, they do no harm.

Second, there are the hard-working intelligent ones. They make excellent staff officers, ensuring that every detail is properly considered.

Third, there are the hard-working, stupid ones. These people are a menace, and must be fired at once. They create irrelevant work for everybody.

Finally, there are the intelligent lazy ones. They are suited for the highest office.” ― Erich von Manstein

We head out to wander the streets. A few things to do but nothing important.

“I am not mocking you, I am patronising you” - Rachelle Griffin

We are getting the feel of Rome. It is busy. Rushed. It is so beautiful you forgive all its faults. I like this city. It drags you into its rhythm. If you don’t fight it, it accepts you.

We have a better idea of food. What to pay. What is a tourist trap. For a city with a reputation of being expensive, you can get away pretty cheap. 18 euros for lunch including wine.

Head home. Relax. Read.

Cook some dinner. Drink a bottle of Chianti. Sit out on the terrace and listen to the city. I am in a t-shirt. If this is winter, I could live here.

Read. Bed. Seems like a boring day. It was great.

We have another night in Rome before we head north. Sienna or Florence. Either will do.

“No matter what the work you are doing, be always ready to drop it. And plan it, so as to be able to leave it.” ― Leo Tolstoy

We walked past this statue and I said to Shell -

“This is me trying to argue with you”
